Projections

(Without sound) A man wanders through life, and we see his interactions - both planned and spontaneous - with desirable members of the opposite sex. Each time he approaches someone, we see him produce the same worn piece of paper. He unfolds this to reveal the detailed sketch of a woman's face - a clear representation of his ideal. Each time he produces the paper to compare it with the face in front of him he is confronted with discrepancies, and each time is slightly crestfallen. Finally, he recognises the face from his folded piece of paper - attached to a living person walking towards him. He stops and produces the paper, enthusiastically and expectantly stopping the woman, convinced she too will be excited. She looks at the drawing, but her smile of recognition fades into sadness, as she produces her own sketch. We see the man's expression change too, as he realises the picture she has produced is not of him.

Love Song

A man walks down a winding path in the wilderness. He seems distracted, downcast, and is startled into the present by the appearance of birds and animals he encounters as he continues along his way. In the background, we can see a tall, thin plume of smoke rising. Eventually he reaches the source of this smoke: a fire, fuelled by a pile of smouldering personal mementoes. Concerned, he squats in front of the fire to take a closer look. He reaches into the half-burnt remains and picks out a photograph. We see that it is an image of him and a woman. The woman's face turns to ashes in front of his eyes. He looks up to see the figure of a woman running into the distance.

Inter-luminary conversation

What if the seemingly innocuous flickering of street lights is actually a system of communication from earth to other planets? Or perhaps, the first signs of self-awareness in man-made objects, as the lamps chatter to each other, planning their uprising?
